He was born on 8 February 1932 at Cesky Krumiov,
Czechoslovakia; died 7 June 2009 in Tasmania.
He was a Senior Technical Officer with the
Silvicultural Research and Development Branch
of the Forestry Commission of Tasmania.
He was also keeper of the herbarium of the Commission.
Acacia pataczekii, D.I.Morris, (1974) is named after him.
"This species was first described by Dennis I. Morris in 1974 after having been brought to the Tasmanian Herbarium's attention by forester and plant collector, Wolfgang 'Wally' F. Pataczek (1932-2009) in 1970, and 1972".
